If one must be a jack of all trades but master of one, the one that I would choose would be music. This is my main area of study, and my hope for a career. I have sung all my life in many styles, had private lessons, done many group workshops, and been a member of many choirs. I am currently in my second year of full-time study at the University of Tasmania’s Conservatorium of Music, doing my Bachelor of Music in contemporary voice. I’m currently looking into a career as a music therapist, for which I would need to study a second degree at a mainland university.
I generally sing as a soprano when in choirs, however I also have a strong lower range. I enjoy improvisation & experimentation.
I sing a range of styles and genres including funk, jazz, blues, rock, soul, gospel, folk, & musical theatre. I have always been interested in musical theatre, which has helped me to become a highly emotive performer. To me, singing is about telling a story and portraying a character, no matter what song or style it is. Expression and dynamics are always vital.
I have a basic knowledge of GarageBand software, and have used it to create and record some music.
I have also had about eight years experience in classical piano, achieving an AMEB Grade 5 certificate. I also have a basic knowledge of guitar.
I am a capable composer, this is not where my true interest lies, but I have written a few good songs.
I am keen to participate in or create bands or jamming groups, for any style, but especially funk, soul, folk, jazz, and blues. Please contact me if you would like me to join your band, or if you are interested in creating a band. I am also available to perform at events, provided I can rope in an accompanist. I can make recordings on request, and have done so before, for soundtracks or similar.
